Job Description

Portfolio Consultant with a demonstrated track record of managing portfolio areas effectively to ensure the successful delivery of the Subsurface and Wells annual program. Some of the portfolios to be overseen include Well Engineering, Petroleum Engineering (Petrophysics, Production Technology, Production Chemistry, Production Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Subsurface Technical Data Management and Field Development.).

Skillset Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Business or related field or an MBA. 

Minimum 12years’ experience, of which a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Portfolio mangmnet  in E&P is a must, preferably in Subsurface & Wells domain.

Knowledgeable in Portfolio Management, Consultancy, Business Analysis in a corporate environment.

A sound knowledge in Exploration & Production Engineering business activities is required or in depth knowledge within a respective portfolio discipline. 

Demonstrates ability to proactively seek responsibility and shows systematic approach to problem solving. 

Possesses an in-depth understanding of IM&T practices, principles, technical environment including the application life cycle and project management.

Manage relationship with relevant portfolios, process owners and key stakeholders internal and external with Shell & 3rd party vendors. 

Identify, develop and review strategies and roadmaps for relevant portfolios covering the Production Geology, Petroleum Engineering Data Management, Production Chemistry, Field Development.

Prepare annual business improvement plans & presentations.

Conduct application information assessment.

Manage spend for relevant contracts of portfolio.

Embed and apply deployed solutions and processes in the business.

Promote system sustainability, standards & best practices in the business including data integrity.

Portfolio consultancy:  Participate  in blueprint/process design workshops with the business process owners/functional teams.

Portfolio demand Management; Initiate feasibility studies/analysis of new requirements and improvement opportunities, and assessment of latest technology including developing opportunities.

Analyze system statistics and KPIs to assess effectiveness level of the business in using the system and identify processes bottlenecks. i.e. Petrel, Techlog, OpenWorks, Recall, Sample Manager, Chemical Stimulation etc.

Conduct Market Intelligence and sustain an echo system of industry and service providers.

Manage Medium projects for in-house development or 3rd party implementation.

Application Landscape Management.

Coordinate Operational Support through respective IM&T teams.

Monitor and participate in project progress related portfolio.

Contract Management (holder).

Development of short/long term (5 years) IM&T related portfolio business plan aligned with IM&T architecture and business plan.

Functional solution design.

Knowledge transfer business knowledge to less experience staff.

Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.Ability to anlyze a problem and then positon a technical solution that will solve the problem.

The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable and fit for purpose solutions.

Critical soft skills - Customer Focused, Team Player, Good listener, good verbal and written communication skills, Self starter / independent, Persuasion and negotiation skills

Knowledge of Upstream E&P processes and data flows

Experience in project management

Experience in organizational change management

Possession of Agile delivery certification. Preferably Agile/SCRUM

Principal Accountabilities

Manage technical/commercial feasibility and application deployments to ensure PDO has access to the most appropriate portfolio of SS&W applications, balancing technical, commercial, and strategic considerations 

Conduct commercial and technical assessment of application portfolio. Gather market intelligence & perform in-depth analysis to identify the best solution among the alternatives available 

Identify changes that are required & will have impact on PDO processes and infrastructure Collaboration with Business, internal IT, and vendors to manage impact

Plan and manage scope, schedule, and budget to include milestones, dependencies, acceptance criteria, risk limits, staffing and spending forecasts

Work closely with management to reprioritize in-flight and planned IT activities that may be affected

Rationalize current software licenses in line with program strategy 

Leverage internal resource whenever possible in the design and implementation phases   Portfolio Planning

Develop an in depth understanding of business strategic drivers, interfaces and their IM&T requirements.

Maintain detailed awareness of portfolio direction (internal/external) 

Formulate agreed portfolio plans in conjunction with CFDH’s and Functional Heads matching business objectives with solution opportunities 

Maintain short and long term portfolio plans in-line with portfolio’s strategic direction Provide detailed work plans and budget forecasts and as required be involved in project planning activity   Portfolio Management 

Accountable for the overall health (efficiency & effectiveness) of assigned portfolio and the availability of portfolio applications

Responsible for the delivery, monitoring and reporting of status (time, cost, scope) against portfolio plans including application and IM project delivery

Responsible for the quality and analysis of the portfolio asset register

Drive effective IM within the assigned Portfolio’s and within Application Management section Ensure IM&T standards are adhered to and ensure business integration/standardization   Portfolio Consultancy

Act as prime business contact point coordinating/facilitating communication and engagement as required between IM&T, CFDHs and Functional Heads

Provide technical information & translating business needs into IM&T solutions 

Provide advice on the selection of appropriate portfolio and assistance on processes, best practices and tools

Facilitate prioritization and escalation of IM&T resources to meet demand

Assists with ensuring successful business application of the portfolio toolset

HSE Management

Ensure compliance with responsibilities and accountabilities summarized in the HSE Policy, Commitment and Accountabilities.
